Blogging and slogging

I have noted a trend in my life.

By the time early spring rolls around I am in a crafting funk  and cannot seem to find motivation.

This year the blahs have reared their head in the form of a blogging funk.  There is no mustering up the necessary ambition.

So,  here I sit in my jammies, nursing a cold.

I do have an interesting little project in progress.  Once I’m healthy again,  I will post photos.

It is a wall hanging/art quilt  that will hang in the empty spot on my wall of trees  (will explain that when photos are up).

Hope you are keeping healthy and getting revved up for spring.

(fun side note;  since I’m sitting around today, I figured out how to use the wordpress app on my Nook.   I’m writing this post on it now.  woo hoo)

Something about January

January has affected me differently this year. It feels like a fresh start. It’s as if Spring has arrived five months early with its promise of bright warm days ahead. (I tried to find a video of this song. No luck. This is as close as I could get)

My newfound hopefulness surely has something to do with the Celexa. *rejoicing*

This past week I decided to put myself on a computer fast so that I would be more able to focus on projects in my house that have been needing my attention for too long. I have allowed myself to get on Facebook for brief periods but only AFTER accomplishing something. Like dusting the decorations on top of my kitchen cabinets.

Brace yourself.

BEFORE

It was no small job!

AFTER

I got rid of several items, too

A friend made this for me over 25 years ago.

Next, I cleaned the refrigerator. You don’t want to know how much dog hair was in the bottom.

Dog hair.

In. The. Fridge.

Another accomplishment: I wrote a list of twelve big creative projects I want to complete this year. I won’t bore you with the entire list (yet).
Here’s my plan for the first two months;

January – Finish the quilt I started in December.

Here’s a sneak peek

I love these prints.

February – Finish this flower shawl I discovered on Pinterest via the help of my friend Janet. The pattern is from the book Motif Book Volume 4 and can be purchased (as far as I could find) on etsy. I ordered my yarn from KnitPicks. I chose Capra. This is their description –

“Capra, our elegant Merino and cashmere wool yarn, is as pleasurable to knit with as it is to wear. Available in a DK weight, Capra is a perfect weight for garments intended to be worn next to the skin, or special cold weather accessories. If you think this yarn feels soft in the skein, wait until you hand wash your project! After the yarn blooms, you won’t be able to keep your hands off of Capra!”

I chose a range of blues and one neutral (cream). The actual names of the colors I chose are; Admiral, Caviar, Celestial, Cream, Harbor and Platinum
I hope to finish it by the end of Feb. or mid-March at the latest (the year is young. I’m still optimistic).

Have you set any goals for 2012?

Quick! Summer’s nearly over!

Our high today is supposed to be around 69. Yeah. Sixty Nine. But wait – it gets better.

Our low is projected at 30.

I’m gonna hurry up and enjoy the last remnant of summer.

Oh. right. I already missed it.

I’m making potato salad anyway. My friend Chloe, over at The Chloe Chronicles posted a recipe for Aioli Garlic Mustard Potato Salad a few weeks ago.

We had guests from out of town recently and my longtime-closest-friend/neighbor/Marci and I teamed up and did a BBQ and Marci (who is a devoted reader of The FunGirls, Susan, Anne, Chloe and, of course – because she loves me – Me) made the garlic potato salad Chloe had shared about.

Chloe’s picture is more beautiful. Be sure to click her link!

If you’re more astute than I you’re probably wondering why my neighbor was willing to team up with me to host out of town guests?

Here’s a brief (hopefully not too dull) version of the story. Marci and I have known each other for well over 19 years. We met when both our families lived in San Jose, California and she and I were both very pregnant and attending the same church. She was expecting her second and I my first. Her son and mine were born three weeks apart and they’ve been good friends for practically their entire lives.

The “guests” were also people who had attended the same church and we became lifelong friends. Our three families have supported one another through some incredibly hard times in each of our lives and are forever bonded.

The thought of cleaning another closet isn’t making me happy… Just sayin’

I have, therefor, given myself permission to delay finishing the third closet until after my son goes off to university life.      **sigh of relief**    I feel happier!  (I’m happier about not cleaning the closet…not  about my son leaving.  Putting off even thinking much about that, for now)

Because of our schtoooopid weather,  I am missing out on the blooming lilacs lining my front walk.

Our high temps this past week+ have been hovering between 40′s and 50′s.   Which means I must leave my front window closed.  Which means I don’t smell the lilacs.  Which means I’m getting grumpy!
So I cut off a few blooms and brought them inside.

That makes me happy!

I am an expert procrastinator!

I am.   I freely admit it.

I just want to go on record to let you all know that procrastination is NOT what is slowing me down this week.

I just don’t feel good and am patiently waiting for it to pass.   Hopefully I’ll be in full-swing by Monday.

I have been thinking some more about my happiness project.   The weather is fighting against my determination to get out and walk for at least a half hour every day.   I hate (yes that’s a strong word  and yes it is exactly the right word) walking when it is windy outside.   It has been extremely windy here lately – and with that wind comes the wind-chill factor  which means  I have to bundle up to go out on a walk  which means  it’s too much work  which means  I ain’t doin’ it.

Which means  I’m not happy.     ha! (that’s a joke)

I’m looking forward to one day of 60 degree weather today  and so I will get out there at least today  before the temperatures drop back into the 40′s.    Yes.  I’m griping about the weather again.
