I remember it very clearly. I was kneeling in front of my stereo trying to find a station that (I can’t even believe I’m saying this) wasn’t playing the Beatles. I was 17 and didn’t have the same musical sensibilities I later developed. After four or five attempts I actually said, “Man! Did somebody die?” Then an announcer answered with the tragic news of John Lennon being shot.
I’ve since become a fairly devoted Beatles lover. Yet, it became clear this morning that I am a bad Mother when my daughter said, “Who is John Lennon?”. *gasp*
That's interesting that your comment back then was exactly what had happened.
At the time, I was still listening to little kid music and had no idea what everyone was talking about that day.
